Revenge of the Sixth: Star Wars games on sale right now

by Ralph Hernandez / May 6, 2022

We have all probably heard of “May the Fourth be with you,” right? It’s the fan-imposed celebration of Star Wars Day, since it sounds like the oft-said line from the Jedi in the movie: May the Force be with you. But very few have seemingly heard of Revenge of the Sixth, or Fifth depending on which you prefer. It’s simply a pun on the title of the last movie in the prequel trilogy Revenge of the Sith and is celebrated on either May 5th or 6th.

Aside from internet-wide shenanigans and real-life cosplay conventions abroad, fans in the Philippines have very limited ways to celebrate Star Wars Day locally. Yes, you can marathon the three trilogies to your heart’s content, but nothing beats living out the fantasy! From wielding a lightsaber and Force choking troopers to piloting your own X-wing, all these can be done through video games. Whatever your gaming setup or console may be, there’s a Star Wars game for you (and there’s no better time to grab them than right now).

Steam sale

Steam-1
No, Mr. Gaben, please. 💸

Right now until May 11, you can add to cart the genre-bending Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for less than P500 on PC via Steam. Take charge of Cal Kestis after he narrowly escaped Order 66 as the events of the game take place roughly five years after the events of the movie Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The game features Soulslike combat with RPG elements and platforming ala-Uncharted. On sale as well are the action shooter Battlefront II Celebration Edition and the first-person space shooter Squadrons. Check out the full sale here. Do note, however, that some games will return to their original price by May 7.

What’s on PlayStation and Xbox?

PlayStation-2
No Origin launcher needed. 😉

Games mentioned above are also available with discounts on both the PlayStation and Xbox stores. But we recommend grabbing the classic Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and its sequel, despite the confusing name, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Both are available for around $15 or roughly P800 depending on the region of your account or console. The games feature third-person hack-and-slash combat with the occasional first-person shooter aspects. Jedi Academy lets you decide whether you want to be aligned with the Jedi or the Sith, allowing you to equip respective Force powers. (Who doesn’t want lightning bolts shooting out of their fingers?)

Xbox-3
PSA: Some of these are already on Game Pass.

Nintendo joins the fun

Switch-4
Not on this list are The Force Unleashed and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Our gamer friends with their Nintendo Switches are not to be left out! While the selection of Star Wars games on the handheld console remains limited, it still includes some heavyweights. Take for example the recently ported Knights of the Old Republic or KOTOR. You can now play the critically-acclaimed RPG even while on the go for $11.24 or about P600. (Hurry though, the sale ends on May 7 at 3 p.m. Philippine time.) And while Disney’s acquisition of the franchise led to the decanonization of the Expanded Universe, which includes KOTOR, its story remains worthwhile and a must-know for die-hard Star Wars fans.

No console? No problem!

Phone-5
Star Wars games on smartphones 🎮

Folks with no gaming consoles or PCs not up to par with system requirements can opt to play on their smartphones. Great news: Most of them are free to play! Our pick is the Galaxy of Heroes, available on iOS and Android. It features team building and strategy elements, akin to the Final Fantasy series. Take a look at Apple’s other recommendations.

What we’re playing now

We are currently juggling another recent Nintendo Switch port, The Force Unleashed, and Death’s Door on PC (which isn’t related to the franchise but the main character wields a sword reminiscent of Darth Vader’s lightsaber).

Vader-6
Darth Vader doing what he does best.

Some aspects of The Force Unleashed, first released in 2008 before getting ported to the Switch just last April, shows its age. There are still some quick time events in boss fights and the graphics, while not unpleasant, could have used a bit of a touch up. Its performance, though, remains smooth despite running on the small hardware and the ability to use motion controls for combat is very entertaining. Plus, you get to play as Vader himself in the opening sequence (gasp)!
