Did you know?

While there has been no definitive evidence where the empanada originated, its name came from the Spanish word empanar, which means to wrap or coat in bread. In the Philippines, perhaps the most known variety is the Vigan or Ilocos empanada—made of rice wrapper, various meat or fillings, then deep fried. Another variation is the empanada de kaliskis in Bulacan, which is flaky similar to a croissant.
