Yahoo Mail unveils new Android, iOS app with ‘first of its kind’ features

Yahoo rolled out a slew of new “first-to-market” features in its Yahoo Mail app for Android and iOS that aim to streamline user experience and improve productivity, the company announced last week.

These new features include group by sender, which allows users to view, manage, or delete emails from a sender in one go; and receipts view, which lets users see purchase receipts from all orders at once.

Yahoo said the receipts view would also help users make returns faster while providing a convenient way to observe spending patterns. On the other hand, Yahoo explained the group by sender feature addresses a big pain point for users who wish to quickly delete all emails from a specific sender.

The updated app also comes with improved features to help Yahoo Mail users better manage their inbox. These include one-tap unsubscribe from promo emails, newsletters, and the like; sorting attachment by file types, whether PDFs, DOC files, and even photos; as well as giving users reminders for subscriptions renewal.

Aside from retaining the 1 TB storage for emails, Yahoo Mail still supports multiple accounts—like Gmail, AOL, Outlook, etc.—within its app so users can view and manage all emails in one place while taking advantage of Yahoo’s new features. It also streamlined navigation at the top of the app, allowing users to toggle between ‘Inbox,’ ‘Attachments,’ ‘Starred’ and more.

Yahoo explained the new and improved features were based on users’ interactions and interests with the goal of empowering them with quick and easy access to information they need.

“Yahoo Mail has been a part of consumers’ lives for 25 years, so we know how important it is for people to quickly find what they need, whether it’s tomorrow’s flight departure time or how much was spent during a weekend getaway with friends,” said Josh Jacobson, GM & SVP Yahoo Communications. “These new features are a culmination of listening to our people to better understand what they need and what makes Yahoo Mail an integral part of it.”
