QBE donates Php 2 million to PBSP, visits adopted schools

Education and nutrition go hand in hand in the Philippines, especially when it comes to various public and private programs and engagements. Such is the case because undernutrition remains to be a persistent health risk in public schools in the country.

To help address this, global insurance company QBE partnered with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) to implement a Nutrition Program for at-risk children in its adopted schools R.P. Cruz, Sr. Elementary School in Taguig and Bagong Lipunan Elementary School in Cebu.

In addition to this, the partnership also helped R.P. Cruz, Sr. Elementary School in setting up a vegetable and mushroom garden to teach students about food sustainability. Aside from the lesson being taught, it became an additional source of funds for the school. At the Bagong Lipunan Elementary School in Cebu, QBE built an Innovation Room that included a library and a computer room to enhance the students’ learning experience.

Over the course of the pandemic, QBE continued its Nutrition program in its communities despite the restrictions on in-person learning. They provided weekly food packs to the children-beneficiaries and their families, as well as hygiene kits, teaching supplies for teachers, and school supplies for children to support distance learning.

Recently, the company’s Group CEO Andrew Horton and CEO for International Operations Jason Harris visited R.P. Cruz, Sr. Elementary School. Joined by other top executives, they met with different members of the community including students, parents, teachers, and the school administration. QBE also donated Php 2 million to PBSP to help fund various programs supporting the school including a nutrition program.

Since 2018, a total of 675 children in QBE’s adopted schools in Manila and Cebu have already benefited from the nutrition program that provided healthy food to children daily. It has a 100% success rate of helping the children get from undernourished to normal.
