Halloween

Candies, spooky ghouls, trick and treats are the usual things that come into mind when Halloween is brought about! But what’s it really about? According to history Halloween is derived from the word All Hallow’s Day or All Saint’s Day.

How about the jack-o-lanterns? The term is from an Irish folklore about a person named Jack and his hunting soul that carried a lantern that flickered while he wandered about endlessly in the place where he lost his life.

In the Philippines we usually celebrate it by dressing up and wearing costumes, going out “trick or treating”, or hosting costume parties topped with drinking games. It also serves as the preparation for the “araw ng mga patay” on November 1 and 2.
