How To Start a Basic Skincare Routine—For Men!
by Regina Layug Rosero / May 3, 2019
People might think skincare such a girly thing, but really, skincare is for everyone! And yes, guys need to take care of their skin too!
Most guys just use soap and water when they take a bath, but you might be one of those guys who wants to try something different. Here’s how you can get started on your own skincare routine.
What you need:
Facial Wash, for cleansing your face
Toner, for restoring skin’s pH balance and removing excess dirt
Sheet Mask, for targeted benefits like pore reduction—this one’s optional!
Moisturizer, for controlling excess oil and preventing dryness
Step 1: Facial Wash
1. Pour a coin-sized amount of the facial wash onto your damp hand. Make sure your hands are clean!
2. Form a lather by rubbing the product between your hands.
3. Gently massage the cleanser on your wet face.
4. Start with the center of your face, then out to your cheeks, up to your forehead, and down to your chin and jawline.
5. Rinse thoroughly.
Step 2: Toner
1. Pour toner on the palm of your hand. Pat your hands together gently to distribute the product.
2. Apply the product by patting it gently on your face. Let it air dry.
Most of the time, you see toner being poured on cotton balls, then wiped on the face. But actually, it’s better to use your hands! Cotton balls absorb more product, but less of it actually gets absorbed by your skin.
Step 3: Sheet Mask
1. Unfold the sheet mask carefully. It might tear!
2. Put the mask on your face and smoothen out the creases.
3. Wait for 10 to 20 minutes.
4. Remove the mask and gently pat in the remaining serum.
If you have specific skin issues you want to address, it’s actually faster and cheaper to use serum instead of sheet masks.
Step 4: Moisturizer
1. Dispense an adequate amount of the product on the back of your hand.
2. Apply the product in small dots all over your face.
3. Gently rub the product into your skin
4. Gently pat your face.
Did you know that even if you have oily skin, you still need moisturizer? Oily skin just needs light moisturizer.
So really, that’s all you need! Do you have a basic skincare routine already? What products do you use? Tell us in the comments!
