Traveling overseas at a time of the pandemic is still a little risky for most people. Aside from the tedious process an individual has to go through to ensure health and safety, there’s still no way of knowing if you are 100% protected from the virus. These conditions are already a struggle for regular tourists. What more for those medical tourists who need to double down on caution when going abroad which involves looking for facilities that can cater to their medical needs.

The Philippines, despite the progress achieved in the medical field, still has a long way to go to treat some severe and complicated illnesses including COVID-19. And with healthcare workers facing extreme levels of exhaustion, a much-needed time for rest is essential apart from the financial dues that they’re owed. Thankfully, the Philippines and its neighboring countries like Thailand are starting to loosen traveling restrictions across borders, welcoming not only regular tourists but also medical tourists who are in need of treatment.

For instance, Thailand’s co-living project HOMA Phuket Town partnered with Bangkok Hospital Phuket to attract more international medical tourists to boost inbound arrivals to the island through the Phuket Sandbox program.

HOMA Phuket Town will work together with Bangkok Hospital Phuket, a world-class medical facility in Phuket, to offer personalized packages for patients that combine affordable self-catering accommodation with medical services.

“Thailand is one of the world’s leading medical tourism destinations, attracting patients from all around the world. With travelers now even more aware of health and wellness, we believe that this sector will continue to grow in the coming years. At Bangkok Hospital, we offer world-leading medical services to our international clientele, so we need like-minded partners we can trust to care for our patients just like we do. In HOMA, we believe we have found the perfect accommodation provider,” said Chatchai Charoensri M.D., Assistant Hospital Director of Bangkok Hospital Phuket.

Guests who use the Phuket Sandbox to visit Thailand can now upgrade their stay at HOMA Phuket Town with professional consultations and treatments from the expert doctors and therapists at Bangkok Hospital Phuket, operated by Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS), one of the most prestigious hospital networks in Asia Pacific. HOMA will also provide long-term accommodation to full-time employees and visiting doctors from Bangkok Hospital Phuket.

“HOMA Phuket Town is a wonderfully relaxing and rewarding place to enjoy an extended vacation. By blending our affordable, eco-friendly accommodation with the professional services of Bangkok Hospital Phuket, our new packages will allow guests to rest and recuperate in a stylish setting, while also supporting the recovery of Thailand’s tourism industry,” said Luca Dotti, founder and managing director at HOMA.

HOMA Phuket Town has crafted a dedicated package that allows its tenants to enjoy a virtual consultation with doctors, from the comfort of their spacious, fully-furnished apartment. A selection of studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units have been specially adapted to aid rest and recuperation, with integrated connection to Bangkok Hospital’s CareConnect Centre. This is also accompanied by various indoor and outdoor amenities including a co-working space and complimentary Wi-Fi, allowing executives and entrepreneurs to stay connected with their colleagues or clients.

Prior to the pandemic, Thailand was the fifth largest medical tourism market in the world, earning about US$ 589 million from the sector in 2017. This success is being driven by forward-thinking companies like BDMS, which provides only top-tier health services to patients from around the world. Its extensive network of 49 hospitals in Thailand and Cambodia provides 8,600 beds and employs over 12,000 doctors and 8,000 nurses. With revenues of more than THB 10 billion for two consecutive years and prestigious honors such as the Thailand Corporate Excellence Award 2020, BDMS is an organization that consistently demonstrates excellence in all areas of its business.
