Food to eat after a series of holiday binge

Being with family and friends over the holidays has made us eat a lot of things that we normally don’t consume. Even if the season lasted for only a few days, this has led to many people gaining a few extra and unwanted pounds.

In order to shed off the weight, it is important to mind what you eat. Here are some of the foods you should eat after a binge.

Bananas

Bananas are a good source of potassium, which prevents bloating caused by binge eating. Not only are they filled with other nutrients such as fiber, protein, and magnesium, they can also help you lose weight, improve your blood sugar levels, support digestive and heart health.

To make your banana meals more attractive and scrumptious, you can combine banana slices with yogurt, a probiotic powerhouse that may help soothe any digestive difficulties brought on by eating too much food.

Broccoli

Binge eating raises the risk of depression or poor mood. In order to counter this effect, magnesium – which is prevalent in broccoli – can act as a mood enhancer and keeps stress and downward emotions in check.

Broccoli may be eaten raw, but blanching it in boiling water gives it a crisper, more tender texture and enhances its flavor. Broccoli can also be grilled, steamed, or sautéed.

Fiber-rich foods

After a binge, consume fiber-rich meals to keep your digestive system operating smoothly. These can help you feel less bloated and full, leading to avoid binge eating or overeating in the future. Some of these fiber-rich foods include beans and legumes; spinach and tomatoes; oatmeal, and cantaloupe; grapefruit, oranges, peaches, and raspberries.

To jazz things up, why not opt for fruit or vegetable salads so you can include a variety of these fiber-rich options.

Gut-soothing foods

Gut-soothing foods such as avocados, asparagus, bone broth, and cinnamon, are responsible for proper digestion, food absorption, and disposal, and a healthy immune system. This kind works especially after binging a whole lot of carbs and fats during the holidays. To be more specific:

  • Asparagus includes prebiotic fiber, which helps feed the microorganisms in your stomach and can help minimize water retention. Keep in mind that your gut bacteria require appropriate nutrition to keep your digestive systems working normally.
  • Avocados, like bananas, are high in potassium, which can aid with bloating.
  • If oats are one of your favorite things to consume after a binge, add a sprinkle or two of cinnamon. This is a natural anti-inflammatory that can help decrease inflammation caused by alcohol, dairy, gluten, cereals, and processed sugar in your body.

Protein

Protein, like fiber-rich meals, can help you feel satisfied by increasing your sense of fullness. Chicken, eggs, and salmon are all excellent sources of high-quality protein. The latter is high in Omega-3 fatty acids, which are anti-inflammatory by nature.

For a full meal, try the roasted asparagus and fish.

Tea

Ginger, green, and peppermint teas are some of the healthiest items to drink after a binge. While peppermint supports digestion by relaxing the gastrointestinal tract and relieving constipation, ginger helps get rid of free radicals from the body and acts as a digestive aid. Green tea, meanwhile, helps you lose weight and lowers your risk of various diseases such as diabetes.

For variety, try adding a squeeze of lemon, which helps calm your stomach and aid in the elimination of pollutants.

There is now no reason not to eat healthy after the New Year. With these treats, you’ll surely get back into shape and shed those unwanted pounds. Here’s to a healthier, new you in 2022!
