Don’t throw away your shot: Hamilton is coming to the Philippines!

Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now—history is happening in Manila!
After seven record-breaking years on Broadway, “Hamilton”, the Tony-, Grammy-, and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, will make its highly-anticipated Asian premiere in the Philippines this September at The Theatre at Solaire.
GMG Productions, who has previously brought Broadway hits to Manila, has partnered with UnionBank to bring Hamilton to the Philippines. In a release, Bob Sewell of GMG Productions expressed his excitement for the partnership, saying that UnionBank of the Philippines shared their enthusiasm in bringing the show to the country.
UnionBank, on the other hand, teased more possible shows in the future. “Along with being the Best Digital Bank, we are committed to offering our customers truly amazing and exclusive experiences, and this is just one of many to come,” said Vishal Kadian, Cards and Loans Head of UnionBank.
Tickets to Hamilton will go on sale to the public beginning April 24. Due to the show’s popularity, however, fans are advised to expect a high demand for tickets. Fortunately, loyal UnionBank cardholders don’t need to wait for it. As the official sponsor and pre-sale partner, UnionBank will be holding an earlier booking period exclusive to its credit cardholders from April 17 to 21.
For the unfamiliar, Hamilton tells the story of America’s Founding Father and Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton through rap, hip-hop, and R&B. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the show’s composer and lyricist, described it as a “story about America then, told by America now.”
Upon its Broadway debut in 2015, the musical performed to sold-out crowds and received several accolades, including the Tony Award for Best Musical. Productions were soon mounted all over the world, including London’s West End, Canada, Germany, Puerto Rico, Australia, and New Zealand.
Miranda also acknowledged the Filipinos who had been a part of the show. “We’ve had so many incredible Filipino company members, part of the Hamilton pamilya (family), all over the world, and now we get to bring the show to your beautiful country very soon,” he said in a video message.
Among the notable Filipino cast members were Rachelle Ann Go and Christine Allado, who originated the roles of Eliza Hamilton and Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds in the West End production.
September can’t come soon enough for Filipino Hamilfans who are “past patiently waiting” to “be in the room where it happens.”
