COVID-19 coverage extended to September 2021 at Japan Airlines

While the pandemic remains far from over, we continue to see signs of recovery as vaccination efforts ramp up across the globe. As more people get vaccinated, economies are also opening up slowly and this could potentially see the number of travelling passengers pick up in the coming months both locally and internationally.
Last December, Japan Airlines (JAL) introduced the availability of its own COVID-19 cover which is also offered to international passengers who choose to travel to Japan with them. The flag carrier recently announced that they are extending this coverage until September 30, 2021 to provide reassurance and support to passengers with essential travel needs during the global pandemic.
In partnership with AWP Japan, a member of the Allianz Partners group, the JAL Covid-19 Cover spans medical costs resulting from the medically necessary testing and any subsequent medical treatment for passengers who test positive during their travels. Quarantine costs and repatriation assistance are also available for those requiring it after a positive diagnosis.
This offer is available to passengers travelling on international flights operated and marketed by JAL. Should a passenger test positive for COVID-19 outside their country of residence, JAL will organize and pay for medical costs, repatriation assistance, quarantine accommodation (starting July 1, 2021), and body repatriation. Quarantine costs will only be covered when diagnosed or suspected of having COVID-19 and requested by local authorities to isolate.
A global 24-hour support line in English and Japanese is also available to assist customers who may need this service, providing peace of mind throughout their journey.
The JAL Covid-19 Cover is part of the airlines’ JAL FlySafe which was first launched in August 2020, implementing a series of hygiene and precautionary measures on the ground and in the air, for the safety of its guests.
The safety program ensures that JAL staff are wearing face masks behind clear partitions at the counters in Japan at the airport.Similarly, cabin attendants on board its flights also have face masks and gloves on while customers are also requested to wear face masks at all times.
Temperature checks are also done using non-contact thermal cameras. Physical distancing is also practiced to maintain safe distance with fellow travelers while waiting in line to check in and to board. Hand sanitizers are also provided to passengers at JAL counters and onboard in the lavatories, while hand sanitizing wipes are also distributed in-flight. Additionally, high touch surface areas are frequently disinfected, such as the counters at the airport, lounge chairs, inflight entertainment screens, seats, armrests and trays etc. Onboard, passengers are spaced out as much as possible based on the load factor.
