Changing seasons mean new anime for #Spring2021

by Elton Gagni / March 24, 2021

As #Winter2021 draws to a close, we got treated to a full anime watchlist to follow after a long (and it’s still ongoing) battle against the pandemic. It’s important to remember how packed it was from both returning and new titles that left fans preoccupied the past few months.

Apart from returning titles like Attack on Titan, Dr. Stone, The Promised Neverland, World Trigger, and 7 Deadly Sins, we got treated to some awesome new titles like Sk8 the Infinity, 2.43, Kemono Jihen, and the hype-is-real Horimiya and OG isekai Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation.

Now that we’re just days away from the #Spring2021, here’s a quick rundown of some titles that we’re keeping on our list. Some we’ve been eyeing for a while, and others for “sampling” out of curiosity. Let’s get to it, shall we?

My Hero Academia 5th Season – March 27, 2021

With the fourth season ending with Endeavour and Hawks winning an epic battle against a Nomu that is capable of thinking and speaking, avid fans of the My Hero Academia are expecting to see more high-tension battles among the students of U.A. High School. As classes merge and students are split into teams, there’s a lot riding on the upcoming season.

Following the release of the trailers, many await how the students of Class 1-B will be showcasing their Quirks and how they would match up against those from Class 1-A. If you’re one of the loyal followers of the show, looks like you don’t have to wait much longer because it’ll be premiering on March 27.

Shaman King – April 1, 2021

After decades since its last episode aired from its first run, kids who followed Shaman King when it still aired on local TV have grown up. And when news broke out about a remake of this childhood classic, expectations were pretty much set already.

Seeing all these awesome characters back on screen, fans both young and young-at-heart are in for a treat as Yoh Asakura, Amidamaru, and the rest of the gang look pretty awesome from the trailers and posters alone. Time really did Shaman King good because the improvement in technology has made it possible to better showcase the fight scenes, especially the Oversoul itself. Stoked? US, TOO!

Moriarty The Patriot 2nd Cour – April 4, 2021

Moriarty The Patriot tells the story of Sherlock Holmes’ rival, William James Moriarty and how his mysterious mind works. The first cour introduced us to Moriarty and his brothers, his origin story, and a taste of his criminal ways to fulfill his vision of demolishing the class system of Britain.

Towards the end of the first cour, we meet Moriarty’s affiliates, but most importantly, we see how his path crosses with Holmes and his trusty doctor companion, John H. Watson. From trying to frame Holmes to test his will, Moriarty then joins him in solving a train murder while teasingly saying, “Catch me if you can, Mr. Holmes.” With that kind of buildup, the second cour is looking pretty tight as we’ll probably see how far the chase will go between Holmes and Moriarty.

Fruits Basket – April 6, 2021

Similar to Shaman King, Fruits Basket is one of those childhood anime that fans embraced as soon as news of its remake made rounds on social media. After two successful seasons, a third and final season was announced, leaving fans both excited and sad as the series comes to a close.

As Tohru gets more entangled with the Sohma Family’s secrets, fans are getting more eager to find out how things will pan out. Will Tohru Honda end with who they’ve been rooting for? Will the Sohma Family’s curse finally be broken? Will the prophecy be fulfilled? Will the series finale be satisfying? So many questions!

86 (EIGHTY-SIX) – April 11, 2021

86 follows the story of Major Vladilena Milize from the Republic of San Magnolia. She handles the Republic’s unmanned drones called Juggernauts as they fight against the Legion drones developed by their rival, the Giadian Empire. Beyond the walls of the Eighty-Sixth Sector are former citizens, known as 86, who have been stripped of their humanity and are forced to work as the true pilots of these ‘unmanned’ drones.

Rooted on racism and war, 86 is a mecha series that is likely to be reminiscent of former mecha titles that somehow share the same plot on wars. If you’re into a post-apocalyptic or high-fantasy type of show with mecha elements, this seems to be up your alley.

Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san – April 11, 2021

For fans of the teasing gods Takagi-san (Teasing Master Takagi-san) and Uzaki-chan (Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out), a new challenger has surfaced in the form of Hayase Nagatoro. Similar to her predecessors, Nagatoro-san is likely to cause more chaos for her Senpai.

If you fell in love with the cute story of Takagi and Nishikata, and you died of laughter from Uzaki and Sakurai, you’re likely to enjoy the chaos of Nagatoro-san’s teasing game. Poor Senpai, you say? You’re probably right, but it’s just another reason for you to tune in and pay your respects as well to Takagi-san and Uzaki-chan.

Tokyo Revengers – April 11, 2021

Are you in the mood for some interesting time travel ala-ERASED? Tokyo Revengers may just be your cup of tea. Takemichi Hanagaki was a middle-aged ‘loser’ who, upon hearing the death of his ex-girlfriend, finds himself traveling 12 years back in time to save the life of her life. How does he save her? Well, by joining and climbing up the ranks of the vicious group of delinquents — the Tokyo Manji Gang.

Time travel isn’t really new when it comes to anime and yet, there’s always something about them that draws us in. Maybe our curiosity for the unknown, or simply to tickly our fancy of changing the past for a better future. Whatever it is, Tokyo Revengers can easily be called “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Gangster.”

Edens Zero – April 11, 2021

Following the conclusion of both Rave and Fairy Tail from decades and a couple of years ago, Hiro Mashima finally brings to the small screen another anime that’s likely to be in the same universe as his classic titles — Edens Zero.

According to Kodansha Comics, Edens Zero is about Shiki who lives at an abandoned amusement park and spent most of life around machines. One day, he meets for the first time in a hundred years, another human, Rebecca, and her cat Happy. Making new friends, Shiki then joins both Rebecca and Happy on a space adventure deep into the cosmos. Sounds pretty interesting, so that’s a definite YES.

To Your Eternity – April 12, 2021

A mysterious story that captivates you with its brilliant and amazing art — That basically sums up To Your Eternity. It features the story of a mysterious orb that is able to mimic different types of matter, from a rock to moss, to a living creature. But as it copies the shape of a wolf, it is able to observe its human owner who is set on an icy journey to reunite with his townspeople.

The trailer alone doesn’t really say much the entire series, and yet the beautiful art draws you. To Your Eternity is also among the top title that fans are looking forward to watch this #Spring2021. If you’re just as curious as we are, then let’s go!!

#Winter2021 may have unleashed a lot of heavyweights, but #Spring2021 also offers a perfect mix of genres whether it’s slice of life, isekai, or the diverse shounen titles. Other shows that are premiering this season include:
