Blackpink slays at first livestream of The Show

BLACKPINK  just closed off the first month of 2021 big and explosive, dominating the digital space with their first livestream concert called “The Show”. Happening last January 31, BLINKs were not only treated to the quartet’s chart-topping hits, but with awesome solo stages from Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie, and even Rosé who is set to make her solo debut.

The Show kicked off with BLACKPINK’s 2019 single Kill This Love showcasing the powerful choreography and killer arrangements. What a way indeed to start a concert and was immediately followed by other fan favorites from their first full-length feature The Album, Crazy Over You and How You Like That.

Keeping up the energy and the overall dance theme that they have prided themselves on, BLACKPINK showcased their vocal flexibility as they performed Don’t Know What To Do, Playing With Fire, and The Album’s carrier single, Lovesick Girls. It’s very apparent how much these ladies were enjoying themselves from one song after another, and surely, BLINKs feel the same way as they loudly cheered over the comments section and waved their lightsticks from home.

One, or should we say four of the highlights of The Show were definitely the solo stages. First up was Jisoo who gave the audience time to sit back and relax as she performed her own rendition of Tove Lo’s Habits (Stay High). Lisa soon followed as she gave a playful and showgirl-like performance with her version of Doja Cat’s Say So.

Jennie heated up the stage with both her vocals and powerful dance moves with the remixed version of her single ‘Solo’. Finally, after teasing fans for about a week with the announcement of her first solo single, BLINKs were treated to an extended preview of Rosé’s music video for ‘Gone’ and were later surprised when the second half of the song was performed live by Rosé herself! What a wonderful song indeed as it beautifully captured Rosé’s vocal range, but at the same time, revealing a sweet and vulnerable side to her.

It wouldn’t be a BLACKPINK concert if there wasn’t any feature of their global collaborations. One of the girls’ and probably one of 2020’s biggest collabs, they performed Sour Candy and got fans a little hopeful if Mother Monster herself would make an appearance for this stage (sadly, she didn’t, but they still slayed nonetheless). For those who aren’t familiar (How dare you?! Just kidding!), Sour Candy is an official single released under Lady Gaga’s Chromatica album.

Still high on their guest performance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the quartet gave the audience more reasons to cheer as they performed Pretty Savage, which probably killed some BLINKs during the performance.

The latter part of The Show definitely took BLINKs on a nostalgia train. BLACKPINK performed their classic hits from their debut single ‘Whistle’ to other iconic releases including ‘As If It’s Your Last’, ‘Boombayah’, and even making a fiery and blazing stage for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ which shot them up the global stage back in 2018.

And to make it a little more sentimental, Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo thanked all the BLINKs who have supported and loved them all these years. As a tribute to all the BLINKs from all over the world, fan letters and messages were printed out and put across the entire stage as BLACKPINK gave their closing performance with ‘Forever Young’.

Filipino BLINK @ninnabianx was even quick to spot her message as the members went around to read them.

Seeing BLACKPINK on stage is really a feat like no other. From the power moves to them simply playing around, it leaves a bittersweet feeling. One that will make any BLINK wish for an offline concert as soon as the global situation allows it. For now, let’s make the most out of The Show, cheer on Rosé for her debut, and pray that the girls make a comeback sooner than later.

The Show was streamed via BLACKPINK’s official YouTube Channel in collaboration with YouTube Music, and is exclusively available to BLINKs who purchased a membership. It comes with other perks such as access to rehearsals and the rebroadcast of the concert, truly making it a fan experience worth reliving and rewatching. For those who weren’t able to join, you can still show your support by purchasing BLACKPINK’s official livestream merch here.
