Annoying things we say to our Filipino-Chinese friends

It’s 2018 and it’s time to celebrate the new year… again! We’re talking about Chines New Year of course! And we all have that one Chinese Filipino friend that we bug with the most ridiculous and sometimes funny things. Here’s our list of annoying things we say to our Chinese Filipino friend every Chinese New Year:
Mag susuot ka ba ng Red bukas?
According to Chinese beliefs the color red represents happiness, energy, and good luck. So wearing the color on a new year is must! It also means welcoming the year with positive energy, and outl. But even if we know that we’d still ask anyway.
Manuuod ka ba ng dragon dance? / Saan may pa dragon dance?
Yes, we start seeing dragons dancing everywhere during this month. It’s usually accompanied with banging of drums and other percussive instruments. The dragon is supposed to bring as auspiciousness and wisdom that is correlated to having good business. The longer it is the better luck it will bring for the community!
Saan ako dapat mag lipat ng furniture?
Even furniture has an effect with your luck according to Chinese beliefs. According to Feng Shui experts if your furniture aren’t placed in the right area it hinders the flow of chi and energy which can highly affect your over health and luck. And we ask our friends with such questions as if they’re all Feng Shui experts.
Anong swerte sa year of the dog?
We’re all suckers for fortune telling and it’s only normal to be curious about our future but spare your friend from asking him/her about your horoscope, GMG (Google mo, girl!).
Pa ampao ka naman!
You know that red envelope we get every Christmas? We get excited for it every time since we know it’s stuffed with new and crisp bills! It’s originally given during Chinese New Year and it’s given to the young and unmarried by the elders. So don’t expect your friend to give you one.
May tikoy ka ba?
And the number one question we ask our Fil-Chinese friends, “may tikoy ka ba?”! Like they’re actually obliged to give us tikoy. It can actually be found in the super market during the lunar new year seasons so if you really want one just go to the grocery store!
