A Burst of Color: Capital One Philippines’ Colorful Workforce

September 22, 2021

Every year, we celebrate Pride Month in honor of ourselves, friends, and loved ones from the LGBTQ+ community. Filled with various colorful events, this special time gives the community the chance to rejoice, proudly and wholeheartedly expressing who they are. But due to the pandemic, this festive event was celebrated a little differently this year: virtually and inside our homes.

Despite this, Capital One Philippines, a company that embraces diversity, inclusion, and belonging (DIB) in the workplace and in their culture as a company, was still able to celebrate Pride and honor associates of all groups: race, age, gender, sex, and a lot more. Here’s how they made Pride more sparkling and colorful even in the digital space.

T-shirt design making contest

Capital One Philippines kicked off its Pride festivities with a company-wide T-shirt design-making contest. Participants were asked to create a t-shirt design in line with this year’s Pride theme which is “Together 4 Better: Inclusion, Belongingness and A Way Forward.”

Participants were free to express their creativity while adding in some touches of the company’s values and programs: Malasakit, Doing the Right Thing, and Investing for Good.

Virtual Pride March

You know, any Pride celebration won’t be complete without a Pride March, right? Well, Capital One Philippines still made it happen, while following strict health protocols, of course!

Instead of marching in the streets, Capital One Philippines held a virtual Pride March where their associates virtually passed the flag–while wearing their favorite rainbow-colored shirt.

Drag Race Superstars Lip Sync Battle

The main event was the first-ever lip sync battle led by Out Front Philippines — one of Capital One’s Business Resource Groups (BRGs) that fosters open communication among leaders and allies across the company and raises awareness of the LGBTQ+ community — that is represented by various Capital One Philippines talents from different groups! Associates showed off their dance moves, fashion styles, and even their content creation skills in a music video where they lip-synced and danced to their chosen song—all while wearing their best drag costume, which is a must for all participants.

In addition, Capital One Philippines also produced exclusive digital materials their associates can use to show support for the LGBTQ+ community. This includes social media profile picture frames and banners and their own Pride online music playlist. The company also created a month-long trivia quiz called “Brainathon” to test their associates’ DIB knowledge.

Pride for Everyone, Every Day

Whether in the real world or the digital space, for Capital One Philippines, pride should always be celebrated and valued every day.

“Here in Capital One Philippines, we celebrate pride all year long because diversity, inclusion, and belonging are part of our company’s DNA. We believe that by integrating these into our core, we spark innovation, we develop talents from different backgrounds, and we empower our associates to thrive while being their best selves,” said Rob Nunnally, Capital One Philippines’ Assistant General Manager. “We believe that pride is indeed powerful; and we strive to harness this power to continue supporting and elevating our customers, associates, and communities–changing lives for good.”
