POMADE 101 – With Bond St. Social
A lot of things are making a comeback – from your grandparents’ vinyl player, to the 50’s – 60’s hairstyle, like the pompadour, just to name a few. Typically you cut the sides of your hair really short, then brush a thicker top all the way to the back in order to achieve the look. The product responsible for sculpting the hairstyle has also made a comeback. The sticky styling agent is back and is now being used largely by the younger male demographic. With the resurgence of the slick back, pompadour and fade haircut, your grandpa’s pomade is also making a comeback.
Choosing the right pomade
Picking the right pomade is as important as getting the right haircut that fits you and your style. There are two types of pomade, water based and oil based. The oil based pomade has a better shine, hold, and it stays in shape much longer compared to its water-based counterpart. The latter basically does the same but it has a lighter quality, meaning it’s easier to wash off compared to the oil based ones. Pomades today are available in different scents and hold levels as well, be sure to pick the right one that fits your styling preference. For example a hairstyle that sticks up like the “quiff” requires a pomade with a stronger hold.
Application
– Dry your hair after wash – make sure your hair is completely dry before applying the styling agent
– Put a small amount of pomade on the palm of your hand, then spread on your hair evenly – you can add more as you go along
– Use comb or hands to style your hair
– Optional* you can use also hairspray for additional hold
