by Madge Resurreccion / February 9, 2022

Valentine’s Day is when people have the freedom to be extra cheesy, romantic, or ask to feel extra loved. But as many others said before, Valentine’s Day is not just for couples. It can also be a day for you to treat yourself, especially if you’re single and feeling a bit lonely on the day of hearts. So, we came up with some ways for you to treat yourself on this special day!

Valentine’s Day is not necessarily for couples alone, so why not spend it with your loved ones like your friends and family? You can grab a cup of coffee with an old friend, get on a video call with your group of friends, cuddle with your pet, or bond with your family!

We usually pass up on normal days to bond with our loved ones, but Valentine’s Day can also be a day to make them and ourselves feel good by simply catching up and having a good conversation over breakfast, lunch, dinner or all three.

Splurge on your favorite food

Have you been holding back on eating your favorite snacks lately? Although it has only been a little over a month into 2022, the days have been passing in the blink of an eye. It has also been hectic for many, whether it’s work, school, or other things keeping us all busy.

Treat Valentine’s Day as a special day for you to indulge yourself. Now’s your chance to splurge on your favorite food from your favorite restaurants! Yes, restaurants, not just one, because you deserve it! End the day with a full tummy and a happy heart!

Treat yourself to spa or salon

Even though the pandemic remains a great concern for the country, many spas and salons are open and offering their services while observing precautionary measures to ensure their customers’ safety. You can surprise everyone with a new bold haircut, have your hair taken care of by the experts, or get a relaxing massage that will put you to a light slumber. This will leave you feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on a new day!

Read a nice book

You can go for something spooky that will hook you in with every word like Bob Ong’s Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan or get into a realistic young adult romantic story like Rainbow Rowell’s Eleanor & Park. Books offer a nice escape from the stressful and demanding reality, and you can pick your own world to get stuck in with different stories and settings. It also helps put you on pause when you feel like life has been going on too quickly and you can’t keep up. Let books give you a breather.

Watch a movie

It can be your old-time favorite, an undiscovered gem, or a movie that has been on your watchlist for a long time, but you never find the time to watch. Nothing beats the comfort of wearing your favorite pajamas with a bowl of popcorn by your side as you settle in the most comfortable position, ready to invest emotions in whatever you plan to watch. So, if you’re looking for a sign to watch it, here it is!

Sleep!

Valentine’s day is just another day that goes by, so if you’re tired and need a break, sleep is the best way to go. You’re not missing out on anything because for adults, nothing is as precious as the luxury of time to sleep. Let it be a day for you to rest and recuperate!

There are many other ways for one to take care of him/herself, but it doesn’t have to be done on the 14th of February either. While Valentine’s Day is known to be the day for couples, love always starts with yourself. When you become extra kind to yourself, the love within you is then extended to others. So, no special day or event is needed to remind yourself that you deserve to be treated better.
